We relocated to Spain to escape the fast paced London life in 1990 and chose the Costa del Sol to settle and create our new home and life.
We were soon absolutely hooked on visiting the many local markets held in the surrounding towns and villages and the more we picked up the language, the more we were finding out about the fascinating and richly historical back ground of locally made Spanish pottery which was being sold there.
Our love for the vibrant colours and beautiful designs of the Andalucían hand made pottery was instant and our new home became a very colourful place to live, a pottery collector’s delight… with pieces of handcrafted and hand painted Spanish ceramics adorning all of our shelves, walls and place settings!
After a while we got to know and subsequently became friends with some of the families who were keeping alive the age old traditional methods of making the pottery and the fascination of watching beautiful objects emerging from a piece of clay was a special treat we often got to observe and enjoy.
By 1994 many of our visiting friends and family had also started to buy and collect these beautiful lines of Spanish ceramic tableware. Many of them would then contact us and ask if we could send more items for their friends and neighbours and on occasion, we would get a call from someone, quite upset, as they had taken the pottery back in their luggage only to discover it had been damaged in the suitcases during the flight home. Well, we couldn’t have them upset, so we started to ship Spanish pottery back to the UK.
We soon discovered that there was a niche in the market for us in importing Spanish pottery shipments and we started to expand, as they say here in Spain “poco por poco”.
In 1997 we had to return to the UK due to health reasons. However, our now rather extensive handcrafted pottery collection came with us. Initially as a hobby, we started to work on markets ourselves, selling our pride and joy – handmade pottery from Andalucía. It was a very difficult time for us, as the health issues were rather over-shadowing, but the joy we were giving others with our beautiful
ceramics from the Mediterranean really helped to keep our spirits up.
In 2002 we were back in full health and without further hesitation, we decided to move back to our lost home in Spain.
We had now established such a large clientele for the pottery, that we had to re-think our sales approach more carefully and so our internet company “Mr and Mrs Pottery” was born.
Over time, our pottery producing “families” have also grown. Many of our older friends have sadly retired. Unfortunately some the ceramic items we first collected are no longer made, whereas other friends have happily passed on their knowledge to their children, who are now continuing the tradition.

In 2005, we re-created our ceramic lines. We knew we had to keep our pottery collectors happy and also adapt to new directions of fashion within the pottery styles. We overhauled our “bits and pieces” collection with a more sophisticated approach; offering complete service ranges from traditional lines and also time-less hand painted motifs.
We work with small family run ceramic businesses that have also discovered the importance of continuing styles for collectors for years to come. Even though they continuously create new patterns, they will always offer to manufacture an item they created years ago. So, good news for all that love to collect pottery like us, you will always be able to purchase more in the future.
